Course Description:
This 18-hole, Par 71 5,672 m, course with a standard scratch of 69 off both tees, was designed by James Baird, the famous Scottish golfer and course architect. He won five British Open Championships and was the architect of the prestigious King’s Course at Gleneagles. Howth Golf Club is a heathland course, offering any golfer - novice or expert - a most enjoyable and challenging game. The clubhouse at Howth is a fine building of great character, situated in a commanding position overlooking the Howth-Dublin coastline.
The facilities are spacious and comfortable, making it a perfect place to relax after a game or just meet friends in pleasant surroundings. The Carrickbrack Lounge and restaurant accommodates parties of up to 180, and in the Shielmartin Room, the club’s bar and lounge, snacks are also served by efficient and pleasant staff. Howth Golf Club always extends a warm welcome to visitors who wish to play the course. Corporate outings are fully catered for, as are societies and groups, with generous tee times available Monday through Friday and green fees for groups of 12 or more begin at 35.

Club History
Instituted 1916, affiliated 1919. The original proposed name for Howth Golf Club, was Kilrock Golf Club. The provisional committee in 1916 was headed by Mr. Gaisford St. Laurence and Rt. Hon. Justice Boyd. Mr. Barcroft, the Secretary of the Royal Dublin Golf Club, laid out a nine-hole course on the Hill of Howth. Mr. Butson, a former employee of the Jameson family and a keen golfer, opened the course as a proprietary venture. Members were invited to join with the annual fee at two guineas. It would appear to have had a slow start and the first Captain was Eddie Stuart, elected in 1916. It was not until Mr. Butson’s interest was bought out in 1918, that the club established itself on a firm footing. James Braid, who won the British Open five times, laid out an additional nine holes in 1926, for a fee of 28 guineas. W. T. Cosgrave, as President of the executive council, opened the new holes in June, 1929.

Howth Golf Club won the Fingal Seniors' Trophy in 2004, when the team was, Dick Conway, Cyril Lynch, Peter Mulhall, Peadar MacCanna, Brian Staines, Jim Clune, Pat McGrath, Peter Faherty, Tom Lowe, Eamon Whelan, Fred Newell, Neil Paul and Muiris Heron, they were managed by John Robinson and Michael Kelly.They won the Uden Cup in 2003, when the team was, George Elliott, Noel Coates, Brian Lynch, Maurice Connolly, Myles Cronin, Pearse Scarlet, and Paul Bourke, they were selected by Michael Askey and managed by David Coleman and Noel Kennedy.
The Ladies of Howth Golf Club won the Autumn Teams Cup in 2003, when the team was, Fiona Staunton, Karen O'Brien, Olive Coyle, Mary Judge, Marie Harte, Ann Lowth, Ann Coleman, Gillian Guinness and Claire Walsh, they were captained by Aveen Magnet and Paddy Cagney.
Howth Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Pierce Purcell Shield in 1970, when the team was, R. A. Fitzpatrick, R. Hayes, C. Gardner, B. Doyle, G. McKeown, J. McDermott, J. Moore, C. McMahon, J. Todd, P. Dolan, J. Whitty, J. Carberry and R. Fitzharris. They were also Leinster Champions in 1974.
Howth Golf Club won the FBD Barton Cup in 1992, when the team was, E. Hyland, C. Gallagher, E. Brady, K. Herbert, F. Grimes, T. Nolan, E. Daly, J. Clancy. M. Lambe, P. Lambe, L. Brady, H. Flood, S. McLoughlin and T. O'Connor, they were managed by T. McDonnell and P. Ruttle.
They won the FBD Barton Cup in 1957, when the team was, S. O'Brien, D. Duff, M. Reid, W. Walsh, M. Cronin, A. Facey, T. Connolly, P. Donovan, P. Lordan, M. Corcoran and C. Archer.

The Ladies of Howth Golf Club won the Daily Mail Matchplay Foursomes at Limerick Golf Club in 1993, with Denise Quinn and Marie Stanley.
The Girls' were Leinster Club Champions and All-Ireland Finalists in the Smurfit in 1998, when the team was, Mary Goode, Brona McGinley and Adrienne Walsh, they were captained by Colette Cassidy.
The Legendary Sheila Steele has won 7 Lady Captain's Prizes at Howth Golf Club and just for good measure she also won a Captain's prize at Greenore G. C.
Cathal McDermott came 3rd in the Leinster section of the McGuirk Golf Junior Open at Rathsallagh G. C., in April, 1999, with a score of 41 pts.
On the 15th Oct., 1997, Monica Cagney had an albatross on the-208 metre 9th at Howth Golf Club.
Simon Behan, a member of the Famous Dublin All Ireland team, in 1963 and a member of Howth, brother of John Irelands most famous sculptor, hasn't lost his winning ways, when he won the June medal in 1999 with a magnificent score of 61. Simon is P. R. Manager at Texaco who sponsored the competition.
