| Course Description: |
Founded in 1897, making Lucan Golf Club on of the oldest clubs
in Ireland, it was not until the mid 1980 that the committee decided to extend
to 18-holes. The new nine opened in 1988 and at first they were nearly like
playing two different courses the old and the new.
However Lucan has matured considerably since and it is now almost
impossible to tell the old from the new, unless like me you remember the old
9 with fondness. Lucan Golf Club has recently constructed a magnificent clubhouse,
providing for the golfers every need, where the visitor is extended a very warm
welcome.

| Club History |
Instituted 1897, affiliated 1905.
The original Lucan course was opened by Captain Colthurst-Vesey
in September, 1897. The course was playable all year round but due to the inaccessibility
of the course the membership started to drop off. The club then moved to its
present location immediately adjoining the Spa Hotel. Mr. Gray, the Hon. Secretary,
was a key figure in the formation of the club. The club would appear to have
floundered for a short period and was revived again in 1902 as "The Irish
Times" on 10th January, 1902, reported "We are pleased to hear that
the Lucan Club has been reorganized. The committee have acquired the land immediately
adjoining the well-known Spa Hotel and have laid out an excellent nine-hole
course" The Hon. Secretary is given as Mr. F. M. Mooney, Leixlip Castle.
It would appear James McKenna, the professional at Carrickmines
Golf Club, laid out the original nine-hole course. In 1988, Lucan retained the
services of Eddie Hackett and extended to eighteen-holes. A fine new clubhouse
has recently been opened at Lucan.
