Course Description:

Knockanally Golf Club was designed and owned by Noel Lyons and was opened for play in 1985. It was the venue for the Irish Professional Matchplay Championship since 1987. The first Championship was won by Ryder Cup player Brian Waites for those of you who are too young to remember, Brian played Ryder Cup in 1983 at the PGA National Golf Club. Knockanally has matured over the last two decades, with some memorable and testing holes. The first has been described by, Christy O'Connor "Himself" as being "the most difficult opening hole in golf" with out-of-bounds on your right and protected by water on the left-hand-side of the green making club selection a priority off the tee and for your second. Water comes into play on several holes but none more so than the 10th and 11th. The clubhouse is full of character where the visitor is extended the warmest of welcomes that is, unless you are a politician!
