| Course Description: |
Another of Ireland’s great west coast links where the sound of the Atlantic, surf in Killala Bay is a steadfast accompaniment to the golf round. Carne Golf Links has the distinction of being the last links course designed by the late legendary Eddie Hackett and is now believed by many who have played there to be his greatest challenge.
Eddie created a series of interesting holes which will encourage the use of a variation of clubs. An enticing hole is the 13th, where the golfer meets a birdie opportunity from the scenic, elevated tee, yet the drive calls for an accurate hit and is not for the faint hearted.
Carne lies in the splendid sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay, the legendary Inis Geidhe and Inis Gluaire islands and dramatic Achill. Affording little disturbance to the natural and un-spoilt environment that surrounds it, Carne is "everything you could ever ask for from the 1st tee to the 18th green" - James W. Finnegan - "Emerald Fairways and Flecked Seas"
"Is annamh a thagann tu ar ghalf chursa a thugann dushlan ar Leith duit mar a thugann Cairn ach nuair a tharlaionn se is iontach an rud e"
Carne was the venue for the Irish Close Championship in 1993. Voted the No. 21-ranked golf course in Ireland, by “Golf Digest Ireland” in 2008. Carne was voted No. 19 Links/Shoreline Course in Ireland by "Backspin" Irelands leading Golf magazine in 2008, the panel comprised of a selection of 52 Professional and amateur golfers throughout Ireland.
