| Course Description: |
This parkland designed course
which measures 6,443 yd's from the back tees, plays much like a links course.
The entire course has been designed and built to USGA specifications with sand
based greens and tees. Course designer Peter McEvoy's concept was to build a
course to provide golfing conditions and aesthetics to delight. Among its features
is a five-tier double green, which is shared by the 8th and 10th holes. Yet
sandwiched in between, is a quite lovely par five - the 9th, which measures
500 yd's off the back. And although index 18 brings it's fair share of heartbreaks
as well as delight.
Peter McEvoy whose successes include Powerscourt and Rathsallagh
amongst others, believes he has constructed probably the best set of par 3's
ever. Golfers of all levels will find the course a challenge with its natural
slopes and valleys combined with McEvoy's trademark undulating greens and some
90 bunkers. With truly magnificent panoramic views of the Wicklow Mountains
and the Irish Sea. McEvoy claimed, 'the views made this site a designer's dream.' Glen of the Downs has recently
opened its magnificent new 15,000 sq. feet clubhouse, with bar, restaurant,
golf shop, changing rooms. In fact everything the golfer could need. Uniquely the Course features two tees for the Ladies.
