Course Description

Founded in 1923 Ballyclare Golf Club is a mature 18-hole parkland located one-and-a-half miles north of the town. It features mature tree lined fairways and the river that traverses the course and lakes come into play on five of the holes.

Ballyclare Golf Club has an illustrious tradition in producing top Amateur such as Gareth Maybin and Johnny Foster featuring in the top echelon of Irish Golfers at present. The Club won the Irish Mixed Foursomes at Bangor in 1998 and are always a force in the Bulmers Barton Shield and Senior Cup.

The clubhouse offers the visitor everything he or she could desire and a warm hand of Ulster is extended to Societies and Green Fees.

Ballyclare Golf Club exacted swift revenge on Sutton Golf Club who had beaten them in the Barton Shield the previous day, when they beat them in the All-Ireland Semi-Final of the Irish Senior Cup at Shannon Golf Club on 17th September 2004 by 3 ½ matches to 1 ½ matches.

They won the All-Ireland Irish Senior Cup at Shannon G. C. in 2004, when the team was, Johnny Foster, Bobby Forsythe, Simon McConnell, Colin Steele and Steven Rea.

Gareth Maybin who won the North of Ireland Championship, received his first full cap for Ireland in the Home Internationals at Royal St. David's Golf Club in Harlech, Wales, from September 11th-13th 2002. Gareth was named as one of four Irish players on the Walker Cup squad for 2003, in September of 2002. Gareth was selected on the Ulster team for the Interprovincial Matches played at Portmarnock Golf Club from 11thto 13th August 2004. Gareth was selected to play in the Home Internationals at Prestwick Golf Club from 8th to 10th September 2004.

Gareth Maybin was selected on the Irish team that played Wales at Ashburnham on the 27th April 2001. He went on to win the Thubshaw Cup by 3-shots over the Ashburnham and Tenby Golf Clubs.

Johnny Foster was selected on the six-man team that played in Governor Hugh Carey Cup at Portmarnock Golf Club from 8th-9thof 8th-9thand the Lytham Trophy from 6th-7th May 2001.

John Foster was selected on the Irish squad for the Eisenhower Trophy played in Kuala Lumpur on the 24th to the 27th October 2002. Johnny, was selected on the Ulster team for the Interprovincial Matches played at Portmarnock Golf Club from 11thto 13th August 2004.

Ballyclare Golf Club, won the Ulster Final of the Irish Junior Cup in 2001.

Prior to 2001:

Ballyclare were beaten in the final of the Ulster Section of The Irish Senior Cup by Shandon Park, at the 19th, in 1999;

Ballyclare won the All-Ireland Mixed Foursomes Championship at Bangor G. C. in 1998, when the team was, Philip Armstrong, Alan Mairs, Cheryl Donaldson, Joan McNeill, Sylvia Armstrong, Colin Lyttle, Stephen Rea, David Britton, Peter McConnell, Grace Smyth, Hazel McCrea, Margaret Graydon and Susan Mairs, they were captained by Drew McIlwaine.

Ballyclare Golf Club won the Ulster Final of the Jimmy Bruen Shield in 1994;

Ballyclare Golf Club won the Ulster Final of the Pierce Purcell Shield in 1997 and 1989;

Johnny Foster won the Mullingar Scratch Cup in 2000 he won The South of Ireland in 1999, and represented Ireland in 1998 and represented Ulster, in 1997. He won the Joe Carr Perpetual Award, in 1997, with a record 165 points and played Ulster Boys' in 1993.

Gareth Maybin won the Carlow Scratch Cup in 2000 and was selected on the Irish team for the World Junior Championship in Hyogo, Japan in June 1999. He played Ulster Boys' in 1997.
