Course Description
.

The immediate impact on visiting Belvoir Park Golf Club is one of peace and tranquillity. Set in rolling parkland, the course has some of the finest specimens of mature trees some are said be over 150 years a growing. With the Black Mountains, Cavehill and the scenic village of Newtownbreda all, visible from the course set on 170 acres of the Deramore Estate.

Belvoir was the scene of the emotional victory of Harry Bradshaw over Bobby Lock in the 1949 Irish Open Championship. "The Brad" had finished runner-up to Lock in The Open at Royal St. Georges earlier in the month after the infamous "broken beer bottle" incident. Harry said after his victory that "Belvoir Park is the finest inland course I’ve ever played on". It hosted the Irish Open Championship again in 1953 when the Scot Eric Brown lifted the trophy, he was aided some exceptional playing of the 16th a 204 yard Par-3. He had a hole-in-one and two birdies on his way to victory at this hole.

The feature hole is the 439 yard index 4 17th a real two-shot challenge. It is what is known as a delayed dogleg, with the forest along the left-hand side and the second is then a full carry over water to a raised green. Getting your par here is a bonus and lengthy periods have elapsed without this hole yielding a birdie.

Designed by the legendary Harry Colt Belvoir is a Par-70 measuring 6,597 yards and has a standard scratch of 71 off the white tees.

Belvoir Park has a magnificent clubhouse and the visitor is assured of a warm welcome after a memorable game of golf.

Voted the No. 36-ranked golf course in Ireland, by “Golf Digest Ireland” in 2008.

Belvoir Park was voted No. 18 Parkland/Inland Course in Ireland by "Backspin" Irelands leading Golf magazine in 2008, the panel comprised of a selection of 52 Professional and amateur golfers throughout Ireland.

Club History

Founded 1927, affiliated 1928.
Belvoir Park Golf Club won the Ulster Final of the Barton Shield in 2007, and were drawn against a surprise Munster Champions Doneraile Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final, just up the road at Shandon Park on Wednesday 12th September.

First on the tee in the first match saw Mark Hammond with Damien McCusker against Damien Carey with Hugh Nolan, when the Moyola pair recorded a 1-hole win over the East Cork team. It was all eyes on the bottom match of Randal Evans with Luke Lennox against Adam Carey with Dave Finn, this match saw the Cork pair being 2 up on the 18th tee and it was looking like a historic win for this Munster team, coming from a 9-hole course with about 400 members and had never been in this class of competition before, however Moyola Park’s Luke Lennox dropped a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th to force extra holes.

Randal Evans and Luke Lennox went up the 19th against Adam Carey with David Finn, the first play-off hole was halved, but they clinched the match on the next a tough Index 3, 381 yard par 4, to clinch their place in the All-Ireland Final against Connacht Champions Galway Golf Club the following day.

On the Thursday Mark Hammond with Damien McCusker were paired against Eddie McCormack (runner-up to Rory McIlroy in the Irish Amateur Close Championship at Westport Golf Club in 2005) with Damien Glynn, when the Galway pair had a convincing 5-hole win over the Belvoir Park pairing.

The second match saw Randal Evans with Luke Lennox drawn against Joe Lyons with Tom Nolan, who halved their match against this experienced pairing. Joe Lyons, had just been called up for the Home Internationals, had won the West of Ireland and was runner-up in the South of Ireland in 2007, whereas Tom Nolan although a very fine golfer would be better known around Galway for being on the Galway hurling team that lifted the Liam McCarthy cup in 1988.
