Course Description
.
Shandon Park Golf Club originated in The Knock Golf Club and moved to its present location in 1926 it then extended to one of the finest 18-hole Parklands to be found in the country in 1937.

Its signature hole is the short picturesque 18th played from an elevated tee to a green below protected by the river, a bit reminiscent of the 10th at Hermitage. Shandon has many memorable and testing holes, not least the 455 yards 6th and the 425 yards 16th. Shandon Park has a long and illustrious tradition in producing some of the finest armature golfers having won no less than 12 Bulmers Senior Cups, the first being at Portstewart in 1960 and the last at Co. Sligo in 1994. Shandon also has 5 Bulmers Barton Shields decorating the clubhouse walls the first was achieved at Co. Sligo in 1963 and their last was at Kilkenny in 1995. I have no doubt there are more to follow as this club has the ability to produce and continue to produce fine golfers.

Their most famous son has to be Michael Hoey who won the Irish Amateur Championship at The Royal Dublin in 1998 at the tender age of 17. Michael went on to win the British Amateur Championship at Prestwick in July 2001and he took three points out of four when Britain and Ireland won the Walker Cup by 15 matches to, 9 matches at Ocean Forest G.C. on 12th of August the same year.

Shandon Park Golf Club has a magnificent clubhouse where the golfer will find all the facilities he or she can desire. A very warm welcome awaits the golfer after a memorable round of golf. If you are lucky enough to bump into Brendan Edwards Secretary of the Ulster Branch of the GUI then your visit will be all the more memorable as Brendan is one of golf's gentlemen.
