Course Description
.
Rathbane is a municipal golf course founded in 1998 and designed by James Healy. It has developed into a fair test. The golf course measures 5476 metres off the blue stakes with a Par 70 and a standard scratch of 68, it is somewhat shorter for the ladies at 4834 metres with a Par 70 and a standard scratch to match. The club continues to make improvements both to the course and the clubhouse facilities, combining in a challenging round of golf. A warm welcome is extended to one and all in this Limerick golf club in a city where sport plays a major part in everybody's life. Redevelopment of the course is due to take place in March 09 with new bunkers and tee boxes being built.

Club History
.

Jude Byrne won the All Ireland Bronze Medal in Gort Golf Club in 2004.

The Ladies club lead the honours with a magnificent win in the AA All Ireland Junior Foursomes Challenge in 2008. The team of Jude Byrne/Marie Barker, Ann Byrnes/Anne Marie Kilroy, Marie Bartlett/ Margaret O'Sullivan was manged by Mary Traynor. The team had one change from the team that won the Southern District Final, Margaret O'Sullivan replaced Oonagh O'Brien who had left for a two year stint in Fiji.

The Ladies of Rathbane Golf Club won the Southern District of the ILGU Munster Cup in 2004, when the team was Maura Seymour (10), Shirley Real (12), and Patricia Kelly (14).

The Mixed Foursomes Team won the North Munster Title in 2008 and had to defeat some very strong opposition along the way, Woodstock in the final and Nenagh, Castletroy and Adare Manor. The team of Jude Byrne/Eddie Costelloe, Shirley Real/ Tom Ryan, Marie Barker/John 'Bunny' O'Neill, Ann Byrnes/Michael Collopy and Sarah Vaughan/Barry Lipper was managed by John Purcell.

On Saturday 23rd of May 2009 Marie Bartlett was inducted into the sporting 'Hall Of Fame' for achievements in Hockey. Marie is also the most capped Irish International.

A men's team representing the club were Munster Champions in the Musgrave Sponsored Crumlin Hospital Rumble at Nenagh and went on to the All-ireland finals in Portugal in the first week of October 2008. The team of John 'Bunny' O'Neill, Tom Ryan and Billy O'Doherty were beaten by a solitary point by Castleblaney Golf Club.

The Men of Rathbane Golf Club won the Regional Final of the Pierce Purcell Shield, in their first appearance at East Clare Golf Club on 7th May 2000, when the team was, John Twomey, Philip Byrne, James Keane, Conor O'Brien, Sean McGuirk, David Byrnes, Leonard Fitzgerald, Eamonn Ryan, Paul Hogan, James Ford, John Cooke, Larry Johnson and Noel Slater.

John Purcell the Captain of Rathbane Golf Club in 2007 holds the Course Record at Shannon Golf Club, as a member back in 1983 John shot a 63 playing off a handicap of 7 he shot the lights out, recording 3 Eagles out of 4-holes, the 5th, 6th and 8th (Is this a World record?) While doing my research I have come across some remarkable Golf Achievements but this one is definitely in the top deck, as John tells me before he shot his record that stands to this day, he had back-to-back Eagles on the previous Wednesday, is it any wonder he got the name "The Eagle Man."
