Course Description
.

The West Waterford Golf Club is built on 150 acres of rolling parkland on the banks of the Brickey river with a backdrop to the Comeragh Mountains to the east, the Knockmealdowns to the north and Drum Hills to the south. An interesting feature of the front nine holes are laid out on a large plateau featuring a lovely stream which comes into play at the 3rd and 4th holes. The Brickey river transverses the southern boundary and features the 2nd, 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th holes which makes these very challenging golf holes. The beautiful split-level clubhouse was built to accommodate all visiting golfers where a new golfing experience and a wonderful welcome awaits all.

Club History
.
In 1990, Pat and Nora Spratt decided to sacrifice 150 acres of their farm to create a magnificent golf course in the tranquil setting that is now West Waterford Golf & Country Club. Thankfully they had the good foresight not to try a do-it-yourself development and they called on the services of Eddie Hackett one of Ireland's best known and much respected course architects. The result of their foresight is now to be seen at this fine course which opened for play in 1993 and are now producing some of the finest young golfers in the region.

Members Achievements

West Waterford Golf Club won the Munster and All-Ireland Finals of the Irish Junior Foursomes in 2007. They made the long journey to Westport Golf Club in Mayo to compete in the All-Ireland deciders. They met Ulster Champions Cairndhu Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on Tuesday 28th August. They met Leinster Champions South County Golf Club in the decider in the afternoon. To continue the remarkable success in underage golf that West Waterford Golf Club having won before in 2005.

West Waterford Golf Club won the All-Ireland Cidona Irish Junior Foursomes at their Neighbouring course in Dungarvan Golf Club on 24 th August 2005.

As Munster Champions they met Galway Golf Club in the Semi-Final and recorded a 3-hole victory over the Connacht Champions.

They played Ulster Champions City of Derry in the Final, when they won by 4-holes.

Seamus Power was considered a "veteran" when he represented Ireland in the Boys' Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa, Lioncolnshire on 2nd August 2005 having been selected the previous year at Portmarnock Golf Club. He and Niall Kearney (The Royal Dublin) were the only two survivors from the 2004 team.

Few of today’s golfers can lay claim to holding the best record in a Golfing Union of Ireland National Championship but following his victory at Lisburn Golf Club on Friday West Waterford’s Seamus Power’s record narrowly eclipses McHenry’s on account of the silver medal won by the former as runner-up to Gareth Shaw at Royal Tara in 2006 in between his other two victories at Portumna in 2005 and on his home course last year.

It was the manner of the Waterford man’s win that will be long remembered by those who witnessed it at Lisburn Golf Club. Power opened with a 69 to lead the way after his first round and simply never relented. A course record equalling 67, which featured nine birdies, followed in round two and he again recorded the best round of the field in the third round – firing a two under par 70 in miserable conditions.

Holding a nine stroke lead entering the final round in was simply a matter of posting a solid score and that’s precisely what Power achieved – recording a 71 to run out the winner by 11 strokes. It was the second widest margin of victory in the history of the event - bettered only by Mark Gannon’s (Co Louth) 14 shot win in Athlone in 1971.

Mark Shannon was selected on the Munster team for the Interprovincial Matches played at Portmarnock Golf Club from 11th to 13th August 2004.

Paddy Murphy was elected to the council of the Munster Branch of the GUI for 2001.

West Waterford's Youths' Team won the Munster Title, which holds well for the future of the club. Having been Provincial Runner-Ups in 1998.

Alan Harty (2) made his International debut on the Irish Boys' Home International matches, having played Munster Boys' in 1996 and 1997. He played Munster Youths' from 1997 to 1998, playing 12 matches and won the Scratch Cup in West Waterford. Alan shot a new course record at Lucan G. C. in the Leinster Youths in 1999.

The boys' team won the Munster Fred Daly in 1999.

The men's team were Provincial Runner-Ups in the Jimmy Bruen Shield in 1995.

West Waterford won the Irish Independent National Pairs Championship in 1994.

John Dunphy won the Golf Foundation award in 2000.

Austin Spratt won the Senior Scratch Cup at Mitchelstown Golf Club in 1995.

West Waterford won the Munster Club of the Year in 2009
