Course Description
.
Delgany Golf Club was founded in 1908 and designed by the legendry Harry Vardon. It is set in one of the most spectacular parts of "The Garden of Ireland". It is such a magnificent location that other course have sprung up in the immediate location in recent years, Glen-of-the-Downs in 1998 and Charlesland in prior to that in 1992. Delgany is a very mature parkland course with tree lined fairways well bunkered, if somewhat a little hilly. The Sugar Loaf mountain's both little and large play a major part in the backdrops to this renowned golf course.

Delgany Golf Club has a calm to fame that no other golf club in Europe can boast, of the 16 Irish players who have played Ryder Cup no less than 4 of them played their golf out of Delgany Golf Club. It was also the first course that a young Padraig Harrington first came to the attention of the GUI when he won the Leinster Youths in 19991 with a fine score of 266 a champion in waiting. Watch that space!

Delgany has a magnificent old-world clubhouse where the visitor and members every need is catered for, the warmest of welcomes is extended to everybody. On my last visit to this famous club major redevelopment was underway and I am assured the improvements will be spectacular.

Club History
.

Instituted 1908, affiliated 1908. The first meeting of Delgany Golf Club was held at the Grand Hotel Greystones on 22nd February, 1908, with Dr. A. M. Archer in the chair. Mr. A. L. Figgiss proposed "it was desirable to form a golf club to be called Delgany Golf Club, with a course in Bellevue Demesne" A story goes that the foundation of Delgany arose out of the reluctance of Greystones Golf Club to allow Sunday golf. On 22nd of July, 1908, it was decided that the course should be opened for play the following Saturday. The first President was Dr. A. M. Archer, and the first Captain, was Mr. F. W. RobertsonAt a committee meeting on the 26th August 1909, it was decided to invite the famous golfer, Harry Vardon, over to inspect the course and make improvements to it. He arrived in September 1909, and played a 36 hole challenge match against Michael "Dyke" Moran, in front of a large crowd. The Open Champion won 3 and 2. The original course was designed by Tom Hood, the professional at the Royal Dublin Golf Club.
