Course Description:
Bangor Golf Club will always be associated with Norman Drew the first Irish golfer to have represented GB & I at both Walker Cup and Ryder Cup level. In more recent years Garth McGimpsey has brought fame and distinction to this illustrious club. Garth won the British Amateur Open Championship in 1985 and played Walker Cup in 1985 and 1987, he has won numberless Irish titles and has represented Ireland with distinction throughout his long and illustrious carrier.
Garth McGimpsey finest hour came at Ganton on 7th September 2003 when he Captained the British & Irish team to a historical 3rd successive win over the USA and has been appointed Captain for the return match in Chicago in 2005.Bangor Golf Club moved to its present location in 1932 and extended to 18-holes. It is considered, a true test of golf by everybody who plays it with, three Par-5 confronting the golfer over the first five holes. A good start over the long holes can set you up for a good round. Bangor is somewhat unusual as the front 9-holes is a Par-37 with the back 9-holes at Par-34 all adding up to memorable and enjoyable days golf. It has a fine clubhouse where the visitor can enjoy the fine food and a drink after his or her round where a warm Ulster hand of welcome is extended to one and all.

Club History
Founded 1903 affiliated 1903Instituted 1903 affiliated 1903 Mr F. C. Doran was the main mover behind the foundation of Bangor Golf Club. After a discussion with some friends, he took it upon himself to call the inaugural meeting. He was elected the first Hon. Secretary, as such he got through an astonishing amount of work.
300 members were recorded, a huge membership for a new Club. The first Captain was Mr. T. C. Connel and a Ladies Club was founded in its first year and Miss H. E. McGuire was elected Captain.
A new clubhouse was opened in 1904 when Mr. F. C. Doran was Captain. As early as 1905, nine new holes were opened. The present Course was designed in 1933, by James Braid after the club had purchased 66 acres adjoining the old Course and having sold 22 acres, including the old clubhouse.
Location
From the A2 out of Belfast to Bangor get on the ring road to the Gransha roundabout, turn left signposted 'Town Centre'. After 1/4 mile turn right onto Fairfield road then 50yds later left onto Broadway, the course is on the right.
Members Achievements
Bangor Golf Club won the Fred Daly Plate in 2006 when they beat Dunfanaghy by 5 matches to 2 matches, having beaten Malone by 6 and halve matches to a halve in the Semi-Final.Bangor Golf Club won the All-Ireland Irish Senior Cup at Tramore in 1984, when the team was, B. J. S. Kissock, J. A. McDade, G. McGimpsey, B. Wilson, N. D. Woods, D. B. Blaikie,P. Barry and they were captained by Jack Kissock.
Bangor Golf Club won the All-Ireland Irish Senior Cup at Grange in 1981, when the team was, B. J. S. Kissock, J. A. McDade, G. McGimpse, B. Wilson,N. D. Woods,D. B. Blaikie, E. Sterrett, B. Kearney and they were captained by Des Hillen.
They won the All-Ireland Barton Shield at Cork G. C. in 1951, when the team was, R .Young (team captain), E. C. Mc.Dade, W. K. Brown and Norman V. Drew.
They won the All-Ireland Jimmy Bruen Shield at Woodbrook G. C. in 1989, when the team was, Maurice Boyd, D. Cooke, D. Cull, P. Davidson, P. Feherty, N. Lavelle, N. Porter, K. Duncan, B. Skelton, J. Whittle, G. Yarr, H. Armstrong, T.C. Fergie, W.A. Thompson, J. Paisley and they were captained by R. Mullan.
Norman Drew played Walker Cup at Kittansett, in 1953.
Gareth McGimpsey played Walker Cup at Pine Valley, N. J., in 1985, at Sunningdale in 1987, at Peachtree Atlanta in 1989, and again at Portmarnock in 1991. He finished joint 3rd in the Willie Gill Perpetual Award in 1999. He was again selected to play for the Irish men's Home Internationals at Royal Co. Down on 22nd- 24th September, 1999, and he has played 119 matches in the Home International matches and represented Ulster from 1979 to 1998, having played 110 matches to date winning 71 of them, ( He won the Willie Gill Perpetual Award in 1984 with 100 points and again in 1988 with 180 points and, in 1993 with 120 points,)
B. J. Kissock participated in the Home International matches from 1961 to 1976 playing 22 matches and represented Ulster from 1961 to 1987 playing 60 matches.
